The Witching Hour Sessions – Prefab Sprout

The Witching Hour Sessions – 09/09/2017.

Prefab Sprout.

Prefab Sprout were formed in 1983 in Newcastle and signed with local indie label Kitchenware Records in 1983. They recorded their debut album ‘Swoon’ in 1984 which was critically well received. If the music press was impressed by ‘Swoon’ their reactions were dwarfed by their positivity and high praise for the follow up album ‘Steve McQueen in 1985. The album reached #4 in the NME’s end of year poll.

The band’s 4th album, 1988s, ‘From Langley Park To Memphis’ was their best selling album to date reaching #5 in the UK album charts and yielding the #7 single hit ‘The King Of Rock’n’Roll’. It also included ‘Cars and Girls’, ‘Hey Manhatten’, ‘Nightingales’ and a host of other superb songs.

Another 6 excellent studio albums (including the brilliant ‘Jordan: The Comeback’, ‘Andromeda Heights’ and ‘Let’s Change The World Through Music’ to name a few) have since been released by the band with the last one (to date) ‘Crimson/Red’ issued in 2013. This album was a critical and commercial success in most of Europe and giving the band a #15 UK album chart placing.

Frontman Paddy McAloon is regarded as one of the great songwriters of his era and the band have been described as “one of the most beloved British pop bands of the ’80s and ’90s”.

I love the music of Prefab Sprout and could have chosen any record from their discography but these 3 gems are my selection for tonight.

Prefab Sprout – Billy (HD) from Crimson / Red (2013) http://www.prefabsproutalbum.com/ What better way to end this year with the soothing voice of Paddy McAloon telling you to let your feelings show. 🙂 I wish you all the best in 2014. Make it a good year. ProgSympho.
