The Witching Hours Session – 20/03/2018

The Desert Rose Band

Due to a couple of early morn medical appointments in Dublin (tomorrow and Thursday) the Witching Hours Session is having an early run out for a day or two…

The Desert Rose Band were a US country rock band from California founded by Chris Hillman (formerly of the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers) along with Herb Pedersen and John Jorgenson in 1985. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band charted several hit singles on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts until disbanding in February 1994.

Tonight’s listening:

1 – The Desert Rose Band (1987)

The Desert Rose Band’s debut demonstrated that Chris Hillman’s new band could continue his country-rock tradition effortlessly. Throughout the record, the Desert Rose Band turns in tight performances, highlighted by brief, tasteful instrumental solos and yearning vocals.

2 – Running (1988)

This is certainly a good representation of the work the Desert Rose Band did in their prime and a project that remains a favorite. ‘Running’ is the work that listeners will remember with the most affection and longing.

3 – Life Goes On (1993)

Their last original band studio album Worth picking up.
